From Graduation Project to Strategic Leadership: How Has Heisterkamp Grown in 20 Years?
Bart Snuiverink lives and breathes transport. As Chief Commercial Officer of Heisterkamp Transport, he is dedicated to growth, innovation, and the future of logistics every day. But beyond his work, he is above all a father to Julian and Gwen and parner of Kimberley.
His career at Heisterkamp began in 2005, and despite a few detours, he remains part of the team. Over the years, he has witnessed the industry evolve, new technologies emerge, and market dynamics shift. What have been the most significant developments of the past 20 years? How does Heisterkamp continue to move forward? And what drives him in his role?

How Did the Journey in the Transport Industry Begin?
In 2005, his journey in the transport sector started at a carnival party. During a conversation with Heisterkamp's then-director, Henk Noordman, the topic of his search for a graduation project came up. "We have something for you!" was the response. This led him to research onboard computers in trucks—back then a novelty, now an essential part of the industry. It turned out to be the beginning of a long journey in the world of transport.

Has Heisterkamp Changed Much in the Last 20 Years?
The Heisterkamp of 2005 and the Heisterkamp of today are hardly comparable. For example: back then, the sales department had only a few salespeople, and growth opportunities were limited. Today, the company has evolved into a large, dynamic organization with multiple business units and approximately 30 sales professionals. This not only expands the range of services for customers but also creates ample opportunities for employees to develop and advance in their careers. Continuous innovation and expansion have ensured that Heisterkamp remains a leading player in the transport industry.

How Has Digitalization Changed the Way of Working?

Whereas quotes were once manually created in Word and Excel, the process is now fully automated. This has not only improved efficiency but also reduced the risk of errors. With data-driven decision-making, choices are now more substantiated and transparent than ever. Customers expect speed and precision, and Heisterkamp meets these demands by continually investing in technologies that optimize processes. This provides greater control over quotes, margins, and overall service quality.

"The informal atmosphere and traditions, such as the annual Christmas party, are still cherished. Employees feel connected to the company, which is reflected in the team spirit and loyalty."

Why Are Togetherness and Tradition Important?
Despite growth and digitalization, Heisterkamp has always remained a family business. The informal atmosphere and traditions, such as the annual Christmas party, are still cherished. Employees feel connected to the company, which is reflected in the strong team spirit and loyalty. Of course, change sometimes brings challenges—especially when it comes to new technology and KPIs—but Heisterkamp consistently finds the right balance between innovation and maintaining its close-knit company culture.

How Does Heisterkamp Stay Flexible in the Market?

Flexibility is one of Heisterkamp’s greatest strengths. By strategically adapting to seasonal peaks—such as transporting plants in spring or supporting the entertainment industry in summer—the company ensures optimal use of its transport capacity. Additionally, intermodal transport is playing an increasingly important role. This means that freight is not always transported entirely by road but partially by train or ship, with Heisterkamp handling the final miles. These innovative logistics solutions help customers operate more efficiently and sustainably.

What Challenges and Opportunities Does the Future Hold?

The transport industry has faced significant challenges in recent years. New European regulations regarding salary structures and driving and rest times, rising fuel prices, and geopolitical tensions have shaken up the sector. Yet Heisterkamp remains resilient. Thanks to a solid financial foundation and an innovative approach, the company continues to adapt to the changing market. One of the key focus areas for the future is sustainability. Electric trucks and alternative fuels, such as HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil), present new opportunities to operate more efficiently and in a more environmentally friendly way.

Conclusion: Transport is Always on the Move!
Over the past twenty years, Heisterkamp has undergone an impressive transformation. Despite rapid growth in international branches and technological advancements, the core values remain unchanged: innovation, flexibility, and collaboration. The future looks dynamic and full of promise, with new opportunities and challenges to embrace.

Heisterkamp keeps moving forward – Moving forward together.
